Protect your Roanoke Rapids home from Breached Pipes

2/14/2020 (Permalink)

We at SERVPRO of Roanoke Rapids would like to offer you a couple helpful household tips.

According to the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), a breach in pipes can cost up to $5,000 or more in water damage expenses. Did you know that pipe insulation, which you can install yourself around any exposed PVC or copper water piping, costs as little as fifty cents per linear foot.

Here are some places that we suggest you inspect:

  • Under sinks – kitchen and bathroom,
  • Your attic,
  • Those dark, creepy crawl spaces, and
  • All your pipes along your exterior walls.

Here are some quick signs of breached pipes:

  • Wet spots in yard
  • Wet spots under counters and cabinets
  • Slow draining
  • Clogs throughout your home
  • Foul sewer odors coming from your yard

Everyone should make sure they know where your home’s main water shut off valve is just in case there is an emergency. This shut off valve is usually located outside the house – if you can’t find it ask someone who might know.

If you do experience a water damage because of a pipe bursts call SERVPRO of Roanoke Rapids right away – this is the safest way to prevent extended water damage.
